Sleepless Nights

No, the baby isn’t here yet, but already we are facing sleepless nights. The last three nights have been particularly difficult, as I think the two adults have had 6 hours of sleep, combined. Between the extra large pillow I use to try and get comfy (which doesn’t work as well as it should), and the RLS (restless leg syndrome), I haven’t been able to find my way to relaxation. Add to that the 2 1/2 year old who has decided to wake up screaming at odd hours, or come to our bed and vomit on us, and it’s been well…. tiring.

Hubby had to take off work yesterday – we were so out of it. We took turns trying to nap during the day, (someone has to watch the 2 1/2 year old!) and it helped some, but we’re still working on a deficit. I know some will say this is just preparation for what we’ll face in a few months with the newborn, but I’d prefer to be less prepared in this area. I need all the energy I can get, and it seems like a reserve of it would be a good thing.

So, here’s hoping for a nice long nap today, and a regular night of sleep tonight!

Introduction…

If you’ve reached this blog by accident (which is very likely), you probably would be interested in an introduction to what it’s all about. Well, I honestly can’t say for sure yet, but I think it will be one of those catch-all journal type blogs, full of the daily happenings of my family and life. It will also probably include a good portion of information about pregnancy, as I’m currently expecting a baby in May. Occasionally there may be a few profound thoughts and original ideas, but since I’m in that “preggo-fog” much of the time lately, it may be after the baby arrives before that happens.

So, about me? I recently moved to Las Vegas and married a wonderful man. I have one son from a previous marriage. We make our home in a two bedroom apartment, and I work from home out of a corner in the master bedroom. I design websites, offer website hosting, and also create candy wrappers for special occasions. It’s a nice extra income, and it allows me to be home with our son…and I get to sleep in the afternoons now that I’m carrying an extra load!

The pregnancy is going fairly well so far. We’ve had a lot of appointments, and have seen several specialists so far. I was born with a congenital heart defect, so there may be a few glitches along the way with this pregnancy. We also have about a 10 percent chance of passing on some form of a heart defect to our little one. The ultrasounds have looked good, but he hasn’t wanted to cooperate very well, so the doctor hasn’t been able to get a detailed look at his heart yet. We go back in three weeks for another try at the ultrasound/heart echo for the baby. He is a busy boy, and moves a LOT (which doesn’t help during ultrasounds). I’m starting to get used to the mild kicks, and his rolling around. I expect that it will get more dramatic soon.

As far as the “glitches” go, we are currently waiting to find out how my heart is doing with all the extra work. We’ve had one echo and appointment with the cardiologist, and he found that I have some symptoms of pulmonary hypertension. That’s really not a good thing, especially while pregnant, so we will be going back in for another echo in 2 1/2 weeks. We are praying that the numbers look better, or at worst, stay the same. We weren’t told what would happen if it gets worse, but it probably will entail a lot of bedrest, maybe some medication, and maybe a really early delivery. We’ll just have to wait and see! I learned my lesson the hard way a few days ago, and decided that it’s not a good idea to google “pulmonary hypertension and pregnancy”. There’s not a lot of good news out there, so best not to even look for it.

Well, this is turning into an extended intro, so I think I’ll quit for now. More later…

Beautiful Joy…
