Banned Book Week

Have you heard of banned book week? I was astounded at the books on the “100 Most Challenged Books” list. Many of the books were required reading for me in high school English classes. I realize that there ARE books that we should keep away from our children, and there ARE reading materials that are morally questionable, even for adults, but come on… banning “Flowers for Algernon”?? Or “A Wrinkle in Time”? I thought about reading the reasons behind why these books (and the rest) were challenged, but then I decided I had better things to do with my time. Like read a book from the list!
Here is the 100 Most Challenged List, taken from the ALA website. I have highlighted the ones I’ve read. I’ll be making a list from this list, for my next trip to the library!
