Merry Christmas! (and our Christmas letter)
By bella | December 25, 2006
Merry Christmas to you and yours….
Below the picture is the Christmas letter I sent out with the cards this year. If you didn’t receive one, and want one next year, just send me an email with your address.

We hope this letter finds you doing well. It seems like just yesterday I was writing a letter for the 2005 Christmas cards. It’s hard to believe 2007 is nearly upon us. It’s been a busy, busy year with our sweet boys keeping us on our toes constantly.Â
In March, we celebrated Samuel’s 4th Birthday. This is the year that Samuel transitioned from “little boy†obsessions to BIG BOY ones. He no longer is quite as fond of Blue’s Clues and Bob the Builder, but instead prefers to talk about Spiderman, Power Rangers, and all things superhero! The major transition came the week of his birthday – when he changed his mind about the theme of his party. Literally overnight, we had to come up with Spiderman themed decorations and gifts. It’s been superhero madness ever since! If you visit our home, you will generally find Samuel dressed up in either his Spiderman costume or his Red Power Ranger costume. For Christmas he is hoping Santa will bring him a Green Power Ranger costume and a Dark Spiderman costume. Yes, the boy wants to be a superhero! (He defines everyone and everything by “good guy†or “bad guyâ€. Somehow he hasn’t figured out yet that Dark Spiderman is a “bad guyâ€, and we haven’t bothered to set him straight).
It’s been a good year for Samuel, in terms of learning and our “non-formal†preschool activities. He is a busy boy with no desire to sit still for “traditional†book-learnin’, so we tend to do a lot of our learning in a creative way. It’s been exciting to help him learn his letters and he can now spell his name, and is learning his address and phone number. The next step is WRITING them, but we’re taking it one day at a time. In September, we had his speech evaluated and hearing tested, and we received good news. His hearing is excellent, and he has some minor speech issues, but they are “age-appropriateâ€, and we’ll evaluate again when he reaches Kindergarten next year. The Speech Therapist gave us some exercises for his mouth muscle strength, and we’ve already noticed a difference since the evaluation.
Â
Lil Allan turned ONE on April 28th, and he jumped with both feet into toddler-hood, although it took him a few more months to actually start WALKING!  He took his first truly unassisted steps on his 16 month birthday. After waiting several months for him to take off, we watched him go from faltering steps to running in a matter of days. It’s hard to believe that right after Christmas, he will be 20 months old – already pushing 2! I recently posted on his website the following update: His vocabulary is astounding, and his attitude is challenging AND fun at the same time. He is his big brother’s shadow, and whatever Samuel does, Allan does. His favorite things to do are: pick up trash and lint and throw it away, sleep, eat, fuss with Samuel, play with Samuel’s toys, dance to music, and read books. His sense of humor is still shining through every day, and he works hard to get laughs from the people around him. In recent days, he’s experienced his first time-outs, and he is really, really good at making Mama (and Granma and everyone else) laugh when he gets “in troubleâ€. His dance moves are hysterical, and he shows them off whenever he hears any kind of music (including on commercials). He is truly a joy beyond measure.
In other family news, this summer we tried (in vain) to purchase our first home. The frustrating stories are too long to recount here, but after putting an offer on a 3rd house and losing yet another house to another buyer we decided maybe it wasn’t quite time for us to buy a house. It turns out we were probably right, since two weeks later we found out that we were expecting another baby. Our house hunt continues, but we have set our sights on a FOUR bedroom, instead of a three bedroom! We are confident that the right house will turn up, and we’re hoping it happens in late spring/early summer, after our BABY GIRL arrives! (Who is due in early April, although we expect her to make her arrival in mid-March.)
And yes, you read that right – we are having a BABY GIRL! The excitement is huge, and we can hardly believe it still. We’ve had three really good ultrasounds so far, and at the last one we spent 35 minutes with a technician who checked out all her vital organs, (and most especially her heart). Everything looks wonderful, and there were no major heart defects apparent. We’ll have an echo of her heart done as soon as she arrives, but we’re very hopeful that her heart will turn out as healthy as lil Allan’s did. In terms of the overall pregnancy, the news is all good, so far! My blood pressure is holding steady at a reasonable level with medication, which is huge improvement over the last time. Baby Girl is a busy baby, just like lil Allan was, and she is constantly waking me up with her kicks and somersaults. Something tells me we are in for it come mid-March!
God has truly blessed us this year, in every way possible, and we couldn’t be more thankful. Allan and I marvel every day at the joy we share together with our two little ones, soon to be three! May God heap his blessings upon your family in the New Year to come.
Much love from the Huskins family:Â Allan, Charlene, Samuel and Lil Allan III (and baby-girl-to-be!)
