    What To Feed My Daughter?

    By bella | January 9, 2008

I’ve never done a WFMW post before, but today’s is reverse, and I need help so I’m posting!

My baby girl is 9 1/2 months old, and she desperately wants to eat more than formula, but I’ve been having a hard time finding things that she CAN eat, that she WANTS to eat, and that she can eat withOUT having major problems (i.e., super bad diapers and diaper rash).

Here’s what we have tried that is NOT working:

Yogurt (tried three flavors, all gave her tummy upset and diaper rash)
Cheese – she doesn’t like it in ANY form
Mac and cheese – see above!
Pasta – nope, won’t eat it
Mashed potatoes – spits it out, and says ICK
Bits of meat (like turkey and ham) – KIND of likes it, but not sure it’s completely safe yet to be giving it to her?
I know we’ve tried other things, but my brain is working on slo-mo today.

    Here’s what IS working:

    Crackers
    Cheerios
Other dry cereals (She has had eggo waffle cereal and LOVES it, but I’ve not been giving it to her a lot, since it’s just a tad on the sugary side)
Pears (canned, cut up into tiny pieces)
Baby food – veggies and fruits – she used to gobble these up, but I have a hard time getting her to eat them now. She WILL eat them for grandma and mema, but not for mama!

Ok, so any suggestions? I want to be transitioning her away from formula six times a day (that’s just awake hours, she also drinks 1-2 bottles at night), and more towards regular meals with just formula supplementing. What kinds of things are safe and healthy and OK to try to feed a 9-10 month old?

(This is a Works For Me Wednesday post – see more of them HERE).

Have you tried the Yo Baby yogurts? They are specifically designed for babies. You can even get ones with baby cereal in them. At my grocery store they are with the organic stuff not with the regular yogurts. My 11 month old LOVES them especially the apple flavored ones. Have you tried giving her avacados? Most babies love them all mashed up. My son also loves scrambled eggs. Good luck!

Hey you! My babies always loved baked sweet potatoes. Just scrub it and bake it in a covered dish for at least an hour, or until it is very tender. Then, peel it and eithe mash it with a fork or cut it into tiny chunks if she’s ready. They are packed with nutrition. Now, if only my kids still liked them..

At this age my girlie liked canned green beans. I think she liked the fact that she could hold on to it herself and gnaw away.

My sister used to feed her daughter tofu. She said it was the easiest protein in the world to feed her – take out of package, cut into chunks, put on tray. LOL Of course if soy is a problem with your child then read the labels carefully.
