    Backwards WFMW – Mopping Solutions?

    By bella | March 5, 2008

I posted this a few days ago, but I’m going to re-post for Backwards WFMW!  I need help, blogosphere!

I have a pretty large kitchen/dining area that is all linolium tile, and I also have three children.  This means lots of sweeping and mopping (or rather it means there SHOULD be lots of sweeping and mopping, if only I actually DID it regularly).

Sweeping is no problem, since I have a handy-dandy broom/bucket combo thingy, but I am not happy with my current mopping tool.  I have been using a swiffer jet thingamabob, but the area I have to mop is rather large, and did I mention I have three kids?  I need a tough cleaner, and a tough mop.  I end up changing the swiffer pads at least once, maybe twice during a mopping session.

What do you all use for mopping?  What about cleaning supplies?  I’m THIS close to getting a big bunch of Basic H from Shaklee.  Those of you who use it, is it good for mopping floors?  Any and all suggestions welcome!

Did you see my post for WFMW last week? I wrote about my Bissel Green Tea Steam Mop. Let me tell you it has changed my life. No more chemcials or mop & Bucket. Just water in the tank, plug and mop. If you go to my blog, http://www.cfomoms.com and scroll down you can see the post. Happy Mopping!

I LOVED my Hoover Floormate, but it’s broken right now. ):

I, too, was frustrated with wimpy, flimsy mops. (Mopping is also one of my most-dreaded tasks.) I finally went to Sam’s Club (you could also go to a janitorial supply store) and bought an industrial-type string mop and one of those wheeled buckets with the wringer. I LOVE IT! The mop is HUGE, covers a lot of area, and the bucket is so handy. The wringer does a great job, so the mop isn’t so sopping wet that it takes the floor forever to dry. Best yet, I don’t have to touch the nasty mop! Hope this helps!

I’m really interested to know what you decided to go with. I’m having a mop problem myself. We have a large area of tile in the kitchen/dining area and we have three kids, one of whom is one and, let me tell you, it’s not pretty. I was using a Swiffer that someone gave me but I ran out of the wet pad things and they’re expensive! Then I bought a Mr Clean thingy but the tile grout eats it up. Then I bought a normal string one, but I can’t get it rung out enough so when it dries it STINKS. So I’m back to either doing it by hand, mostly spot cleaning, or using the Mr Clean thing, which works but the replacements are expensive.
